We must keep company with those who grieve, but we must also find our own joy even in the midst of loss, destruction and widespread injustice. Com-passion binds us to others in care, but only eros, love, and delight can give us the vital power and resilience to refuse the corrosive immensity of the world’s suffering. To feel with and to take delight–we must grow both these capacities in ourselves simultaneously.
