The swimming Vineta church is pulled by two boats towards its final landing place on the Stoermthaler See lake in Grosspoesna near Leipzigin eastern Germany. The church will be anchored at the place the church of the dismantled Magdeborn village used to stand. Residents of Magdeborn were relocated and their houses dismantled in the 1970s as the region was exploited for lignite by open cast mining. The pit was flooded afterwards and created the Stoermthaler See Lake
The church is always on the move… This image reminds us of the church of Christ as a boat, an image of the ecumenical work Christian churches must do.
