Installation
of Cláudio Carvalhaes as Assistant Professor of
Worship and Preaching
As part of the 155th Spring
Convocation Service, February 7, 2008, Dr. Cláudio Carvalhaes
was installed as Assistant Professor of Worship and Preaching.
Carvalhaes, who began teaching at LPTS in August, delivered
the convocation address, “The Liturgical Space as a
Territory" (John 4: 1-30), in which he inspired listeners
to consider worship space as territory, marked by social,
political, sexual, and economic boundaries, and how such an
understanding should create in us a heightened sense of global
awareness and anticipation in how we worship God. The service
was planned with rich international textures and meanings and
included a multi-sensory experience of liturgy.

As part of the 155th Spring
Convocation Service at LPTS, Dr. Cláudio Carvalhaes
delivered the convocation address in which he presented an
understanding of worship and worship space as intricately
connected to the surrounding world. To demonstrate his
theme, and with the assistance of members of the student
body and several of his international colleagues, Carvalhaes
created a liturgical experience that included dramatic
readings and music from South America, East Europe, Africa,
Asia, and his home country, Brazil. Listen
to the address. Read
